'Shakespear, Drayton and Ben Jhonson had a merry meeting and, itt seems, drank too hard, for Shakespear died of a feavour there contracted.'
(The Diary of John Ward, Vicar of Stratford, 1662-81)
These words inspired Irish poet Shaun Traynor to write this remarkable poem.
Shaun’s poem re-creates that “merry meeting” and places it in the Bell Inn, Welford-upon-Avon on the evening of the 22nd, April 1616 .
The reading will be followed by a Q&A.

Part of this year's celebration of the centenary of Shakespeare's death, Shaun Traynor's atmospheric poem will be read by the founder of the legendary Pentameters Theatre. This promises to be a unique and intimate performance. I shall be there. As sure as my name is Traynor.
