Sydney, Australia has recently become the subject of international attention because of the start of the annual Vivid Sydney festival, a celebration of light and music. The festival consists of an outdoor exhibition of delightful lightning installations, music events and important creative industry forums, most of which are free to the public.

Vancouver-based artist Fiona Tang, a student at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, draws 3D-looking animals that seem to pop out of large and perfectly 2D sheets of paper. Tang‘s multi-media artworks, created with charcoal, acrylic paint, conte, ink, and chalk pastel, usually focus on wild predators. Her darkly atmospheric and sketchy-looking style evokes terror, fear, anxiety, or sometimes just the mild melancholia of an unknown world.

Chinese retouching artist Chunlong Sun has created a bizarre portrait series called “Celebrity,” which shows 5 of the most infamous world leaders from recent history gently holding stuffed animals in their arms. In the portraits, which were made using almost-look-alike Chinese stand-ins, the leaders look at once friendlier and creepier than ever before.
